My Why

I understand what it feels like to be different, and to need additional support. Growing up, I struggled with many of the same challenges my clients face: difficulty with social communication and language processing, sensory and emotional regulation, executive functioning, and rigidity with my routine and habits. Because of these challenges, I had a harder time expressing myself with words, and instead would cry or throw "temper tantrums" over any minor inconvenience. I was then labeled as being "oversensitive" and "emotional", traits that seemed beyond my control but became a large part of my identity. Overall, I felt misunderstood and yearned for connection and validation.

At the age of 5, I experienced my first therapy session to manage my feelings and experiences. I remember it vividly; I played and talked, authentically and unapologetically myself. There were no labels, no judgements, and nothing that needed to be "fixed".  I was treated as a human, and looked at holistically- every experience and part of me mattered. That session was foundational as it established the concept of a safe space and provided the tools I needed to express myself differently, and make my voice heard.

Therapy not only became a routine self care practice in my life, but something I also aspired to provide for others. As a teenager and young adult, I continued to navigate interpersonal and social dynamics, learning about the importance of self expression and identity. Based on my personal experiences, I developed strong relationships with children and young adults across a variety of settings, helping them better express and understand themselves.

The connections I made were a clear indication that I belonged in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. My therapeutic approach is grounded in this humanistic perspective and the belief in collaboration, where teamwork enhances effectiveness beyond individual efforts. My goal is to ensure that everyone I work with feels acknowledged in their experiences and identity. Your child has a voice, and it is important. I am here to listen and provide a space where they feel heard, trusted, and able to show up as their most honest and authentic self. Together, we will develop a connection, explore strengths and challenges, and integrate holistic Speech-Language Pathology strategies that meet them where they are.
